According to the audit, the total income of 16 clubs in Super League in 2016 was 7.082 billion yuan, with an average income of 443 million yuan. The total operating cost of 16 clubs in Super League reached 11.014 billion yuan, with an average cost of 688 million yuan. This figure is 78% higher than the average of 387 million yuan in 2015. Among them, the rapid increase of club players’ transfer fees and salaries is the biggest factor for the overall operating costs of the club. In 2016, the average labor cost of the club increased from 216 million yuan to 464 million yuan, an increase of 115%. The cost of training young players increased from 19 million yuan to 32 million yuan, an increase of 68%.

Judging from the income composition of clubs, the commercial sponsorship of Super League clubs accounts for the largest proportion, reaching 64%. However, the sales of tickets and surrounding areas on the match day only account for 3% of the club’s income. It also shows that the current Super League clubs generally have problems such as too single income structure and excessive dependence on commercial sponsorship.
