Two changes of owners, a change of name and a makeover.
In 1982, when "Baku" was born at the Nikolayev Shipyard in Ukraine, no one believed that it would become the "Super King" today.
Baku is the name of the capital of Azerbaijan. At the peak of the Cold War, the Soviet Union named the last of the four Kiev-class carrier cruisers after it. This is a ship type between an aircraft carrier and a heavy cruiser, and it is also regarded as the first quasi-aircraft carrier with fixed-wing aircraft developed by the Soviet Union.
After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Baku, which had been in service for less than four years, ushered in the first turning point of its fate. The Russian Navy renamed it the aircraft carrier "Admiral gorshkov". However, due to the lack of funds and poor maintenance of the ship, after the boiler explosion in 1994, the ship was "seriously comatose" in the port for a long time until Russia decided to sell it to India 10 years later.
This surviving warship has become the only blood of the "Kiev" class. In order to give it a resounding name, India crowned it with the title of King Chaori in the heyday of Gupta dynasty in its history. Subsequently, another $2.3 billion was thrown out to upgrade it-this change is another 10 years.
Today’s "Chaori King" has not found the shadow of the "Kiev" class cruiser. The brand-new deck has enabled it to take off and land modern fixed-wing carrier aircraft, and the high-performance electronic equipment transformation has also enabled it to take a step of informationization. If there are no accidents, this "veteran" who has passed the age of 30 will soon rejoin the army-just, it is no longer the old look.
Moving tendons and bones, body reconstruction and layout change
"Admiral gorshkov" is called an aircraft carrier, but in fact it’s just a different name, and it doesn’t make much improvement on the "Kiev" class carrier cruiser. Strictly speaking, it’s not an aircraft carrier in the modern sense.
The bow of the ship has no sliding deck, but is full of weapons and equipment such as anti-ship missiles, air defense missiles and naval guns. There are also a lot of radar electronic equipment piled up on the bridge, and only the small side deck can take off and land helicopters or vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
