Hubei won 5 gold medals in the 2024 National Rowing Championships.

Paddle blows the current, and the waves stop the flying boat. From September 26th to 29th, 2024 National Rowing Championship was held in Sichuan Water Sports Management Center. A total of 238 boats from 23 teams and 663 athletes from Hubei, Guangdong, Sichuan and other provinces and cities competed fiercely in the Sichuan Water Sports Management Center. A total of 40 athletes from our province participated in 8 events in 9 boats, and won 5 gold medals successfully. The total number of gold medals ranked first in this national rowing championship, and 17 athletes from 3 boats from Hubei team were selected for the new national rowing team.

This tournament is the highest-level rowing single event in China this year. According to Group A and Group B (U23), there are 28 events including single, double, four and eight.

The performance of our team members in the final on September 29th was exciting. In the men’s single sculls final of Group B (U23), john young was the first player to win the first gold medal for Hubei.

In the women’s four-person single paddle event in Group A, Wu Yongmei, Lin Xinyu, Ju Rui and Yang Rongrong easily won the laurels with their superb skills;

In the men’s four-person single paddle event in Group A, members Li Wenlei, Zhang Lutong, Sun Lu and Zheng Yaming struggled to win the gold medal easily;

Group B (U23) women’s quadruple sculls, in which players Wang Yutong, Lu Ming, Li Yimeng and Zhao Liangyu dared to fight and live up to expectations, and then won the gold medal;

At the finale, Cao Chuang, Liu Hao, Li Chun, Zhang Maolin, Yang Yue, Cong Sheng, Liu Dang, Shen Yushuang and Song Jiayi, the men’s eight-person single oar helmsman competition in Group A, worked hard and won the gold medal. This is also the second time that the Hubei team won the gold medal in this project after a lapse of 25 years. The last time it won the gold medal was the National Rowing Championships in 1999, and now it is of great significance to win the gold medal again.

The person in charge of the provincial aquatic center said that the competition in this national rowing championship is fierce. Although the Hubei team has achieved more than expected results, the competition has ended and everything has to start all over again. Next year’s Greater Bay Area National Games will be the final test of this cycle, and the time is tight, and the task is heavy. Next, the water center will comprehensively analyze and summarize the shortcomings, and devote itself to the winter training and preparation training as soon as possible, go all out, adjust the state, constantly improve the special skills, lay a solid foundation for the National Games, meet the challenges with the best attitude, strive to create new achievements, and contribute water power to accelerate the construction of a strong sports province in Hubei to a higher level!

The competition was hosted by the Water Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration, the China Rowing Association and the Sichuan Provincial Sports Bureau, and was undertaken by the Xinjin District People’s Government of Chengdu, the Sichuan Water Sports Management Center and the Sichuan Rowing and Kayaking Association.
