Fuel consumption of 3.25 liters per 100 kilometers is higher? Test drive BYD DM

[Global Network Reporter Zhao Hanqing] Who experiences electric vehicles VS fuel vehicles better? Many people on the internet have a bitter dispute about this. Proponents of electric vehicles believe that trams have low noise, fast speed, rapid dynamic response and low operating cost; Supporters of fuel vehicles usually emphasize that fuel vehicles have no mileage anxiety. And BYD’s new DM-i super hybrid technology may avoid the entanglement of many prospective car owners: it integrates these advantages.

On January 16, the Qin PLUS DM-i sedan with this technology was tested by the reporter personally, and the fuel consumption was only 3.25 liters/100 kilometers on ordinary roads. Another colleague drives a common pure fuel vehicle of the same class in the market as a control group, and its final fuel consumption is 6.4 liters/100 kilometers. In terms of driving experience, this Qin PLUS DM-i can almost be said to take into account the advantages of fuel vehicles and electric vehicles.

Can’t be attributed to the "golden right foot"

As we all know, the old driver will drive with relatively low fuel consumption/electricity consumption by virtue of delicate and stable throttle control, early prediction and soft braking. This time, the author and another media teacher who participated in driving are also stable. However, it should be noted that our fuel consumption performance is not a "fuel-saving king".

The main reason for saving fuel is the power of science and technology. Unlike BYD’s DM-p, which emphasizes performance, DM-i emphasizes economic performance in design. China is the world’s largest automobile consumer and the world’s largest oil importer, and its dependence on foreign oil has exceeded 70%. More than half of the imported oil needs to be transported through the Straits of Malacca, and our oil reserves are capped. It is more urgent for China to reduce its dependence on oil than other countries. 70% of the oil consumed in China is consumed by fuel vehicles. If the new energy vehicles can develop faster, it will promote the transformation of energy consumption structure in China faster and reduce the uncertain impact of oil on the development of China. Therefore, it is of great significance to accelerate the replacement of traditional fuel vehicles with new energy vehicles and change the energy consumption structure. The introduction of DM-i super hybrid comes from BYD’s feelings of serving the country and its social responsibility.

According to reports, the DM-i super hybrid system architecture includes: Xiaoyun-plug-in special 1.5L high-efficiency engine, EHS electric hybrid system, DM-i super hybrid special power blade battery and AC/DC vehicle charger and other core components. At the same time, the vehicle control system, engine control system, motor control system and battery management system are also completely independently developed.

DM-i super hybrid is a hybrid technology based on super electric hybrid system, which is mainly driven by high-power and high-efficiency motor. The main function of gasoline engine is to generate electricity in high-efficiency speed range and drive directly at the right time. It has changed the design architecture of traditional hybrid technology, which mainly depends on engine and oil, thus greatly reducing fuel consumption, and is a brand-new species of new energy technology.

It is worth mentioning that, unlike many hybrid vehicles "ordinary fuel engine+electric system", DM-i super hybrid is an electric-based drive architecture, and the whole system relies on the engine only. The 1.5L high-efficiency engine used by DM-i for Xiaoyun-Plug-in has super-high thermal efficiency, and the system only uses the engine according to the driving conditions, which makes the engine not need to give full consideration to the high and low speed ranges, but only need to focus on the high-efficiency speed range. The working stroke time of the engine is longer, the in-cylinder combustion is more complete, and the fuel consumption rate is reduced, while the loss of explosive power is just made up by the motor.

Not a good performance, but a more meaningful fuel-saving race

This time, the author tested the version of Qin PLUS DM-i with a battery life of 55 kilometers, and the official comprehensive fuel consumption was 3.8 liters/100 kilometers. It should be noted that this is a loss of electricity and fuel consumption, because the fuel consumption parameters of some plug-in vehicles are the result of the mixture of batteries and fuel. In order to verify the fuel consumption, our vehicles also consumed 25% of the electricity before the official departure.

Some endurance tests were carried out on closed roads at an equal speed of 60km/h, but this time our test drive was carried out on open roads in Shenzhen, with some congested urban roads and some high-speed. Personally, I feel that this is close to the comprehensive use experience in the suburbs, which is of great reference significance.

There will be various tricks in some fuel-saving races. It is said that some people even turn off the central control screen, while others even use dangerous ways such as following big trucks and driving at low speed to reduce energy consumption. And our cars are relatively Buddhist, and they all run the whole course according to the navigation points, and the speed is not slow. The author and another media teacher in the same car are also driving normally, which can be regarded as the kind of driver who is more stable every day.

After our Qin PLUS DM-i was filled with oil at the starting point, the fuel tank was sealed. After running all the navigation points according to the navigation, the subtotal mileage is 112 kilometers, and then it is filled with oil, and the amount of oil is 3.64 liters. After calculation, the average fuel consumption is 3.25 liters/100 kilometers.

This achievement ranks only second among the five Qin PLUS DM-i peers. I lost, and I was relieved, because the A6 car with the lowest fuel consumption seemed to drive wantonly, at least at a faster speed than us. It is worth mentioning that some car critics in the same industry are still more keen on experiencing performance and driving more "free", but the highest fuel consumption data does not exceed the official parameter of 3.8L

There is also a group of Song PLUS DM-i who participated in the test, but the specific driving style is not clear to me. The fuel consumption test data is posted for reference.

Driving experience: It has the advantages of both fuel vehicle and electric vehicle.

DM-i emphasizes economy in design, but it doesn’t mean that its performance is not good. The official 100-kilometer acceleration time of the 55-kilometer version of Qin PLUS DM-i driven by us is 7.9 seconds. This performance is equivalent to a mainstream fuel vehicle with a 2.0T engine, which is very good.

From the actual driving experience, mixing can foster strengths and avoid weaknesses, and DM-i super-mixed driving technology brings more wantonness. At the start, in the low-speed urban working conditions, electric vehicles are the most comfortable to drive. Because of its fast start, rapid dynamic response and quiet, it is very arbitrary to see the needle in the traffic flow. Moreover, the tram is cheap to charge, it doesn’t cost electricity at idle speed, and the kinetic energy during deceleration can be recovered and charged back into the battery, and the traffic jam is not so anxious … When you want to drive an electric car most, the DM-i super hybrid is driven by a motor, which is an electric car.

However, the electric vehicle also has its shortcomings, such as the weakness in the latter part of motor acceleration, the increase in high-speed energy consumption, and mileage anxiety during long-distance running … When you want to switch back to a fuel vehicle most, the DM-i super hybrid internal combustion engine intervened, and it became a fuel vehicle again.

That’s all for this test drive. It is difficult to describe the driving experience clearly in words, and everyone’s feelings are different. I still hope that everyone can test drive in person. But what is certain is, electric car or fuel car? Fuel economy or performance? Cheap or endurance? One by one, the choices that make consumers embarrassed are realizing "all want" under the development of technology.
