Starting from the concept version of the Shanghai Auto Show in 2005, the Chery three-door sports car S16 has gone through four spring and autumn periods. Recently, Chery S16 made its debut at the 5th QQ Culture Festival, and the new car’s name signing activity was officially launched. It is expected that the car will be listed during the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2009. Let’s take a look at the technical parameters of S16 first.

Chery S16 was once called QQ Sport, so it is closely related to QQ series. S16 continues the cuteness of QQ3, and the front face also adopts the smiling face design of two elliptical headlights. And S16′ s taillights are also two big circles, and the transparent color is symmetrical with the headlights, and the periphery of the front and rear license plate frames are all added with silver semi-circular frames.

From the body size, S16 is larger than QQ3, but the wheelbase is 25Mm shorter than QQ3. It is conceivable that the longitudinal space in S16 will be tighter than QQ3, especially the leg space of the rear passengers will not be ideal. However, in terms of lateral space and head space in the car, S16 can provide drivers and passengers with a more spacious feeling and a wider field of vision. Because it is a three-door design, the rear passengers need to put down the backrest of the front seat before entering the car, but fortunately, the two side doors are very large, which provides convenience for drivers and passengers to get on and off.

Chery S16 is equipped with five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels. With the 175/60 R14 Jiatong tire with wider tread and larger diameter, it not only looks more fashionable, but also improves the driving stability of the tire. In terms of servicing quality, Chery S16 is 160 kilograms heavier than QQ311. The kerb quality is an important parameter that affects fuel consumption. Usually, the larger the kerb quality, the more fuel the car consumes. Of course, the curb weight of a car is not as small as possible. Cars with high curb weight have good stability, are not easy to float at high speed, and have obvious advantages when turning sharply and braking suddenly.

S16, like Chery QQ6 and A1, will be equipped with a 1.3-liter SQR473 engine, with an in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve and overhead double camshaft structure, with a rated output of 61kW/6000r.min and a maximum torque of 114N.m at 3800-4500r/min, matched with a 5-speed manual transmission, and able to meet Euro IV emission standards.
This is a slow-heating engine. When the speed is below 3000 rpm, the engine appears a little soft. When the speed is increased to 3500-4000 rpm, people can feel the difference between the 1.3L engine and the 0.8L engine.
The suspension structure of Chery S16 is the same as that of QQ3. The front suspension is McPherson independent suspension, and the rear suspension is longitudinal trailing arm semi-independent suspension with transverse strut, which is also the most common form of rear suspension on this class of vehicles. Although it also connects the left and right wheels by a steel beam, the connection point is not the center of the wheel, but a point on the transverse rocker arm connecting the wheel. Although this kind of suspension is not as good as the connecting rod in comfort, it can effectively restrain the roll of the vehicle when turning, improve the handling, and at the same time, the cost is low.
